We all know how expensive hair and skin treatments are, but many wondrous products sit right at your home! These remedies are a holistic approach to cleaning your skin, body, and hair. Your body needs a break and so does your mind too! Here are three remedies that you MUST try out! (And trust me, it works.)
#1 Rice Water

We all desire the thick, long hair that we see in commercials, right? Although those expensive shampoos with chemicals seem enticing in ads, the natural approach to improve your hair can give you better results. It can completely transform dull and frizzy hair to the luscious locks you desire. A remedy I have recently started and have seen some results with is the rice water hair treatment. Rice water has a tremendous amount of nutrients, such as iron, vitamin B, minerals, and antioxidants. Using this on your hair can have lasting effects, such as shiny, thick, long hair.
Personally, I think the fermenting process works best, since all the nutrients are well soaked. First, take half a cup of rice and put it in 2-3 cups of water. Wash it thoroughly for three minutes by running your hand around the rice, scrubbing the pesticides and dirt off. After straining the rice, pour 2-3 cups of water onto the washed rice. Massage the rice into the water for three minutes until the water turns a cloudy haze. (You want to have more water than rice to reduce the strength it will have on your hair. Many scalps are different, so it is safe to stick with this proportion provided.) Optional: add orange peels for extra nutrients (vitamin C) and enhance the smell of rice water. Leave this mixture in a closed box in the fridge for at least 24 hours before straining the rice and using it on your hair. Leave it on your hair for at least 20 minutes before rinsing your hair with lukewarm water. If you are using shampoo, only use about a nickle sized amount.
Keeping this liquid in the fridge up to a week is highly recommended. In addition, it is advised to only use this treatment once or twice a week to prevent drying. Lastly, remember to measure your hair before and after a few weeks to see results!
One an important note, always remember that eating foods with high amounts of iron, like spinach, fruits, and nuts is always necessary and equally as important to hair growth. These foods can aid and support this treatment on your hair!
#2 Turmeric Honey Face Mask

This remedy is popular and had existed even in ancient times, but still does its magic! This mask cleans out your pores and brightens your face. (By brightening, I mean that it makes your face glow rather than lightening your face color.) This treatment helps for acne and can also provide a deep clean! If you are using this for acne, I recommend that you gently wash your face with warm water to open up the pores before applying this mixture.
There are two versions of this mask. You can add thick yogurt to your bowl if you want, or you could just stick with the turmeric and honey mask. Yogurt is extremely good for removing dead cells and moisturizing the skin. I have tried both, and they work equally well. Although, in my opinion, the yogurt had a cool, soft touch to my skin.
To make this mask, put about half a teaspoon of turmeric into your bowl. Add about ½-⅓ a teaspoon of honey and mix it until it is extremely thick. If you want to add yogurt, add a tablespoon of thick yogurt. The measurements for these ingredients are honestly up to you, as long as the consistency is thick and not runny. Apply this on your face and wait for about 10-15 minutes. After, rinse your face well with soap, since turmeric tends to linger around. I highly recommend you to use an ice cube to massage your face after this treatment because it closes your pores. About 5-10 minutes later, moisturize with lotion. Lastly, you can store this mixture in the fridge for up to a week. Make sure to try this remedy several times to see the results!
Measurements:
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon honey
1 tablespoon thick yogurt (optional)
#3 Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a miracle plant that can treat cuts, strengthen hair, smoothen face, and can be consumed too! This plant is enriched with Vitamin A and C, antioxidants, and highly anti-inflammatory. Aloe Vera is so simple that it can be used raw to get wondrous results!
Before using this treatment, make sure to do a patch check on your arm and wait for fifteen minutes. Look for any rash or redness. If none of these signs occur, then you are probably not allergic to Aloe Vera and can proceed and continue to use it on your face or hair.
For acne, all you need to do is cut the plant into cubes. Start by rubbing a cube around your face. It may be cold and sticky, but trust me, this is totally worth it. Use your nails to poke holes into the gel to get more fluid out onto your face. I like keeping this on overnight and washing it off in the morning. If you prefer not to, wash it off after 20 minutes. You are more than welcome to use aloe vera on your face every night!
For longer and thicker hair, it is equally as simple. You just need a few cubes to apply onto your hair. If you want, you can also separate the skin and gel of the plant and combine all the gel cubes into a blender. Blend it and u can apply this onto your hair as a liquid. Leave the aloe vera on your hair for at least half an hour before rinsing. Remember to use minimal shampoo and rinse with lukewarm water. Use this treatment for up to 2 times a week. The aloe vera liquid can stay in your fridge for up to a week before it starts to smell. The entire aloe plant can stay in your fridge for about 2 weeks.
For me, this treatment had very surprising results and required dedication toward using this treatment repeatedly. I had to wait about a month or two to find an increase in hair growth, but I immediately noticed smoother and healthier hair. My acne started fading due to aloe vera after a few weeks of use.
Overall, these remedies truly worked for me and helped my face and hair a lot. The main takeaway from this to help you succeed is to never give up! It may take an extra few minutes off your day, but remember to stay persistent! Good luck!
